A Fellow Day in meetings is implemented. As we have previously organized before, young fellows will have the opportunity to meet and interact with CKD-MBD experts.

Renal osteodystrophy (ROD) is a heterogeneous group of metabolic bone diseases complicating progressive chronic kidney disease (CKD). ROD is associated with a many-fold increased fracture risk compared to the general population. Risk of fractures is also increased in kidney transplant recipients especially within the first 5 years after transplantation. Fractures in CKD patients are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Importantly, ROD also associates with cardiovascular disease. Thus, proper screening and management of CKD bone complications is critical to improve clinical outcomes. This remains challenging. Imaging techniques such as dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and novel (high-resolution) peripheral quantitative CT are gaining interest but do have limitations. In some cases, a tetracycline double-labeled transiliac crest bone biopsy with histomorphometry, i.e. the gold standard for the diagnosis and classification of ROD, may still be required in the diagnostic work-up. The present CME aims to provide an update on the clinical assessment of ROD anno 2018, both by means of state of the art lectures by key opinion leaders and interactive (with voting system) clinic-pathological conferences. The CME will end with a “network meeting” allowing the informal discussion of both clinical and research topics in ROD with peers and experts.
