An interactive course for young practising nephrologists

Aim of the course:

• To offer a 4 day highly interactive course on practical management of end stage renal disease, dialysis and transplantation.

• The aim of the course is to disperse available knowledge and differences in practice among young practicioners.

• Information and education is provided in 21 workshops, in small groups (max 15 participants per group) by experts in the field. All workshops and discussions start from clinical cases. In addition, 8 plenary lectures are planned.

Who can apply for the course:

• The course is open to participants from Europe

• The course is intended for nephrologists in their last year of training or who have just finished training

• In order to enhance participation, fluent knowledge of English is mandatory. Applications will be screened by the organising committee

• Participants arrange their own travel and pay a personal registration fee of € 350 / £ 320 - accommodation

in a standard college room is included in this fee

Topics covered during the course:

Interactive tutorials

• Predialysis strategies: modality selection, anaemia management, prevention of comorbidity, options in the elderly

• Non-renal problems in patients with ESRD: Infectious complications in ESRD, pregnancy

• Haemodialysis strategies and problems: latest thinking in bone and mineral metabolism, access problems, volume status assesment, convective vs diffusive dialysis, alternative dialysis strategies

• Peritoneal dialysis: CAPD/APD modality selection, evaluation of membrane characteristics, plasmaferesis indications and strategies

• Transplantation: assessment of donor and recipients, combined transplantation, work up of early transplant failure, early surgical and medical complications of transplantation, chronic allograft nephropathy, late complications of transplantation and immune suppression, approach to the patient with a failing graft

Second page: short CV, including clinical experiences. Third page: short description of what you expect to learn from this course and why you want to apply. Notification of eventual acceptance will be sent by email before June 15th, 2017. Details with regards to accommodation and payment of the registration fee will be sent with confirmation of participation.
